Elinor Johns
Elinor is our Conducting Scholar for the 2026-7 season. She is currently a student at Leeds University, in her fourth year studying music psychology.
Elinor was brought up in Bath. She began singing at the age of seven in the Bath Abbey Children’s Choir and spent seven years there as a chorister. With that choir she performed in several places across Europe and recorded for TV and radio. By the age of 18 Elinor had achieved Grade 8 in singing and piano, and she headed North to Leeds University.
In Leeds she has enjoyed performing as a choral scholar at the Cathedral and singing with the University Music Society’s Chamber Choir. She is excited now to be conducting the Chamber Choir, exploring with them works of various periods and of differing styles.
In her third year Elinor relished the experience of co-conducting the Leeds University Union Music Society (LUUMS) Symphonic Choir, where she led rehearsals and performances of some of her favourite choral pieces such as Faure’s “Cantique de Jean Racine” and Brahms’ ‘Wie Lieblich” from his Requiem.
This year Elinor is delighted to be working with Ilkley and Otley Choral Societies to gain more conducting experience and to benefit from working with our team of professionals led by Alex Kyle.
